I’m from Germany, 18 years old and I’ve spent 10 unforgettable weeks at iKhaya le Themba in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay.

I’ve felt at home there from the very first moment and I was so sad when my time at iKhaya ended, but I hope that I could give something back to the children because they sure thought me so much (maybe even more than I could teach them). I learned about how to live your life in an always positive way but first of all to always love and care about each other.

When I think back about my time at iKhaya, I think about the kind and loving atmosphere which you could always feel around the people there, I think about the infectious laughter of the kids and their infinite positivity and I also think about how they were always singing and dancing around with so much joy.

Being hugged and feeling all the love around there all the time made me feel so blessed that I had the chance to be a part of that heart-warming community and that I was able to experience their way of life. The teachers really care about every child, respect them and are always there for them. iKhaya is such a nice and safe place to be for all the children and they can be who they really are around there.

I always enjoyed spending my time with the kids, doing homework, reading and playing around together and I wish I could’ve spent many more hours doing that.

I wish all the best to everyone at iKhaya le Themba and hope they’re doing great.

Only love – Jenny
