Dance Inspiration Day for Grade One Kids by CBM training

Mandela Day is a beautiful day in South Africa where we take inspiration from the 67 years that Nelson Mandela worked for freedom for all in South Africa. We take 67 minutes on this day to do something for our local communities. (See more info on Mandela Day below!)

iKhaya was very privileged to be contacted by CBM training who offered 67 minutes of dance, food and a party for our 30 Grade 1 learners.

Tanya arrived just in time for our 1 hour of classroom time between 4 pm and 5 pm to inspire, feed and have fun with these special Grade 1s. Our grade 1s are between the ages of 6 and 7, so you can imagine the fun that was had! The stomping, laughter and joy were heard throughout the iKhaya campus as Tanya took the children through some routines!

The Grade 1 class also discussed Madiba and the reason behind Mandela Day, prompting us also to think of what we could do, since we were so blessed by CBM training!

We at iKhaya would love to thank CBM training both in Johannesburg and Cape Town for thinking of iKhaya and giving us the gift of your time, your treats and your dance moves! You are welcome here anytime and we’re already planning some work placements for these 6 year olds in your office!

What is Mandela Day?

Mandela Day is an annual international day of humanitarian action that takes place on July 18th, in honor of Nelson Mandela's birthday. Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected President of South Africa and a globally respected figure for his role in fighting against apartheid and promoting human rights.

The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the intention of encouraging people worldwide to take part in voluntary community service in recognition of Nelson Mandela's dedication to social justice and his contributions to the anti-apartheid struggle.

The main purpose of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to make a positive impact in their communities and to work towards creating a better world for all. The idea behind the day is that each person can take action and contribute, no matter how small, to effect positive change and bring about a more equitable and peaceful society.

People from all walks of life participate in various activities on Mandela Day, such as volunteering at local charities, participating in environmental initiatives, or supporting causes that align with Mandela's values, including education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and human rights.

Mandela Day serves as a reminder of the importance of collective effort and the power of ordinary people to make a difference in their communities and beyond. It's a day to honor Nelson Mandela's legacy and to promote the values of equality, freedom, and reconciliation that he stood for throughout his life.
