Skills Week in Collaboration with Jumping for Jerseys!
Skills week took place from the 19th July, 2023 and our 120 children had opportunities to learn, try new things and meet local experts, all thanks to Jumping for Jerseys!
Jumping for Jerseys is an incredible local NPO set up by Cameron Chubb in 2020 for the lives of needy kids in Imizamo Yethu. Cameron actually passed away in 2021 at age 23, but his efforts to change lives in Hout Bay lives on!!
We love working with Cameron’s mom Tracey and his friend Kai as they continue the work and they approached us to celebrate Mandela Day in true Jumping for Jersey style!
When they asked what we needed, we told them that our children would really appreciate learning new skills and creating new experiences. The Jumping for Jersey’s skills week at iKhaya was born!
From the 19th July to the 23rd July, our 120 of the neediest children in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay were treated to 6 skills workshops to choose from.
From dancing lessons from Simone, Breathwork and Blanket Making with Tammy on Wednesday, to Baking and Decorating biscuits with Saskia and Environment studies and games with Charlene on Thursday and then Yoga with Eden on the Friday. The iKhaya learners got to dip their toe into some skills that could potentially change the course of their future careers, or just simply teach them skills to use in everyday life.
Things that some can take for granted like baking, can hold one of the most precious memories of joy for children in a township.
We would like to thank Jumping for Jerseys for making this week possible.
What looks like just fun and games to others, is the making of a childhood of a strong, happy adult in the future. Our library also got kitted out with blankets for our children to wrap up in on a cold winters day whilst reading and doing their homework, again, all thanks to the incredible work of Jumping for Jerseys!
Please check out the Cameron Chubb foundation and all their initiatives to continue the work of Cameron and see young lives changed in Hout Bay! Follow their instagram here, or give them a like on Facebook here.
